"Dear Sport Fishing Magazine:  Thank you for the article by Doug Kelly in your May 2007 edition (“Tampa Bay Turnaround”).  It was very timely, as I was planning a trip to the Tampa Bay area in June.  As luck was on my side, Captain Tommy Ziesmann, who was featured in the article, was available for a charter while I was visiting.  It also was a time when the Tarpon were running.  Tommy Z, Spencer, his deck hand, and I went out one morning for the Tarpon hunt.  What a thrill to have happened upon hundreds, although it didn’t matter because they were in their pre-spawning ritual and had no interest in the crabs we were casting to them.  Later that day was another story altogether, as we went back to our previous location and began seeing other anglers hook up.  Our chance came when we connected with a 130 lb. Tarpon, my first!  After tagging, we moved on to look for another pod before we called it a day.  Our last cast of the day was the most exciting cast, as we hooked up with a 160 lb. Tarpon who really didn’t want to be on the other end of the line!  For a first time Tarpon experience, the hunt and catch was one I will not forget.  Tommy Z was an excellent guide and teacher. Thank you for the recommendation!
